Could crafting your own ornaments and decorations be better than store bought ones?
I live Outback rural so I like the country house style and rustic outdoor dΓ©cor which baskets are always a winning element.
π
So with that in mind, I have bought some more tiny round baskets, I'm excitedly waiting on them to arrive and I intend to weave them in with flowers, either in the colours we enjoy (my daughter might choose something, well pink!). I might end up with a Christmas full of character! If I am less brave, we might go with the more traditional Christmas theme. My husband is terrified to stray from red, gold and green tradition, so I might have to meet everyone somewhere in the middle.
Wish us luck! Our first ornament making effort, couldn't possibly all go wrong, right?
Have you ever made your own Christmas ornaments? If yes, what was your own experience, any advice? Are you just pondering what to shop for, in order to carry out this misadventure, I mean adventure, lets try to be optimistic. I have given it some thought, and the top 5 reasons this could be a good choice for you, me and the whole wide world seem pretty bullet proof.

No doubt DIY Christmas tree ornaments bring a unique charm and personalization to holiday celebrations that store-bought ornaments simply cannot match. Here are a few reasons why crafting your own ornaments can be more beneficial than purchasing them.
Pros:
1. Personal Touch: Creating your own ornaments allows for a personal touch that reflects your style and memories. You can incorporate family photos, favorite colors, and themes that resonate with your family's traditions.
2. Cost-Effective: DIY ornaments can save you money. Gathering materials for homemade decorations can often cost less than buying new, especially when they just get put in a box after Christmas for the next year.
3. Family Bonding & building your own tradition: Making ornaments can become a cherished family activity and tradition. It encourages creativity and collaboration, providing opportunities for family members of all ages to work together, share ideas, and create lasting memories, each ornament can carry it's own story and meaning. They can also be made leading up to the holidays which is a nice activity to keep the kids busy.
4. Eco-Friendly: If you are huge on sustainability practices, by choosing to make your own ornaments, you can opt for sustainable materials, repurpose items you already have, and reduce waste that comes with mass-produced goods. Additionally, DIY items can be disassembled in some instances and re-used for other areas in the home or future projects.
5. Unique Designs: Store-bought ornaments might be lovely, but they often lack originality. DIY ornaments can be as simple or as extravagant as you like, ensuring that your tree stands out with one-of-a-kind pieces.
I do believe, that ultimately, the joy and fulfilment derived from creating your own Christmas tree ornaments can turn your holiday decorating into a more special and memorable experience, far surpassing the convenience of store-bought options. So gather your craft supplies, invite your family, and start a new holiday tradition!

Cons:
But, alas let's face it, it's not all rose choosing this option. Why?
1. We might not always have the time to do the shopping and planning,
2. Not everyone is crafty to be confident to set out on this adventure
3. Will there be the time to set aside to do it ourselves or organise the family and friends to do it together
4. Not everyone might like to "do crafts," and so you might think it is a wonderful idea but uncle Tom couldn't care less and would rather be doing something else.
So here is what you do, think about a few questions in order to decide what you will do this year?
Will you be doing this on your own or are you going to do it with others?
If I am doing this with others, are they capable? how capable and are they interested in this sort of thing?

At the end of the day, if, like me, you have never done this before. It is probably best to just jump right in, prepare and give it a go and make what ornaments you like best and think you or your tribe can do. Just start small, you don't need to try to make ornaments for your entire tree. Most or some can be store bought, while a few lovingly made for those lasting sentimental memories we can't put a price on.
Alternatively, you can do the softer landing and get a DIY Kit of what you like.
For the mini ornament Christmas baskets for sentimental photos that I will be making, you can have some hand made for you and the photos printed already and it is sent through to the mail to you with some of the assembling so you still get to enjoy an easy part of it and save some time. A floral basket frame kit!
Either way, do what makes you the happiest and makes
the best use of your time under your particular circumstances.
